Unexpected accidents are very common among the young children at. home. The, purpose of this study wad to prevent accidents of young children and to help improving their health.
The study was carried out through interviews with 430 mothers who have children of below ages of six and experienced Domestic accident within the last year in the area of Daejeon city.
Data had been collected by questionnaires as per parallel study in December 1982 and then analyzed statistically.
The results were as follows:
1. The most causes of the accidents showed injury with 36.7% and fall with 29. 8 %, burn with 15.8%, motor vehicle with 10.5%, respectively.
2. Among the young children who experienced accidents, male was 56.7%.
The ages in which the most accidents occurred were 5-6 with 23.7%, the next was 2-3 years with 20.5% and 3-4 years with 19.3%.
3. As for the place of accident, indoors occupied 63. 3%.
4. Time of the most accidents showed 12-P.M. 3 with 45.8% and season was autumn with 35. 1%, summer with 33.7%
5. Location of the body injured by the accidents showed head and face with 45.3%, the highest and the next was lower extremity with 27.0%, upper extremity with 25.8%.
6. 36. 5% of the accidents occurred when they were with their parents and 28.4% did with their peers.
7. Emergency treatments right after the accidents were given at hospital and clinic with 39.3%, and home with 34.9%.
